Bugs asked his son, seeing him peekinto the office. "I just wanted to.... WHAT's that picture do there?" he replied livid pointing at the picture of Lola, that now occupied the space where one of his mother had sat till just days ago. "Buster, your mother is gone and has been for years. I can't live on a memory forever. We all have to go forward," Bugs replied, realizing the sudden change had to hurt, but it wasn't like he didn't love his wife. A part of Bugs would always love her. She had changed his life in many ways, some that would never be known. Without saying another word Buster turned and exited Bugs's office. He quickly headed outside, to think about this situation sitting down on the steps in front of the Loo, Buster pondered how to deal with this situation. He and Babs had intended to invite Bugs to join them for supper that night. Buster still preferred not to call attention to the fact Bugs was his father, it was a hard habit to break after so many years. Looking up at the clouds above he spotted an airplane that suddenly started to smoke as it dove towards the ground. Just before reaching the ground the plane stopped in mid air and Plucky jumped out as the plane went up in smoke. "Air Brakes, you jest gotta love them," he said covering Buster in spit, who whipped out a towel and dried himself off. "Talk to you later, Buster." Bugs was looking out his office window, at Buster. A part of him could understand his feelings. It had to be hard to take finding out your father was falling for someone, especaily when that someone appeared to be not much older than yourself. Buster's mind drew him unwillingly back in time. Disney had shown one thing that could destroy a toon, but somehow in the deepest recesses of his mind, he knew of another, real fire. For some reason he had tried to forget it, but couldn't. It was the nightmare that had bothered him for years. All he could remember is flying somewhere with his mother, then becoming very scared. He was looking up at a face he knew to be his mother's as the rode on a plane from home to someplace else, and that's where the nightmare usually stopped, with him waking screaming at times. This time though the nightmare continued, the plane suddenly lurched and seemed to go crazy. "Don't worry Buster, everthing will be ok." she said looking down at him. "Toons, this is your pilot, we have encounter a rip in the fabric of space, and the plane is partially engulfed by real fire. We have no choice but to bail out. Parachutes are attached to the bottom of each seat," the intercom said. His mother had quickly unbuckled him from his seat, slipping something on his back. It was a rush making for the door. Quickly showing him the ground she threw him out of the plane. As the chute took hold, Buster saw the rest of the plane catch fire, and vanish, with only a bunch of ash floating towards the ground, as he screamed repeatedly for his mother. "Bugs, excuse me. Any idea what is wrong with Buster?" Babs asked breaking his chain of thought. She was looking in the doorway, at him sitting at his desk lost in thought. "Oh, sorry, kiddo. He's just having a hard time accepting that I love Lola, in light of his mother," he replied. "Would you mind telling me what happened to her. Buster never would, but I guess it happened when he was really young." she replied, hopping onto the edge of his desk. "Well I'm not a hundred percent certain, kiddo. Buster and her were to be on a flight coming to see me. The plane was caught by real fire, and not a trace of her or any of the other passengers was ever found," Bugs replied sadly. "Oh, I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked, then how did Buster escape?" Babs poundered more to herself, than Bugs. "Well you might as well know that part too. If anyone should know, it'd be you. Anyway, I guess it was his mom, parachuted him out of the plane." Bugs became quiet then, and looking towards the sky, he mummered barely loud enough for Babs to hear it "I still miss her at times." After a few seconds, he sighed heavily, and looking back to Babs, he smiles and said, "So what brought you by other than trying to find out what's wrong with Buster?" he replied "Buster was going to invite you to join us for supper tonight at the burrow, if your not busy," she said "Not at all. Lola is tied up, the last I heard." Bugs commented "Elmyra or Monty?" Babs asked, wondering why Bugs, wasn't more worried. "Elmyra, I'd guess. Don't worry Lola can handle herself. I'm surprised, she fell for that trick, then again maybe she wanted a little more excitement." he replied, looking out the window at Buster, who was still sitting on the steps lost in thought. Then, cracking, he added "Just wait till she calls Lola a doll." "Yeah," Babs replied with a chuckle. "I kinda feel sorry for Elmyra in that case, but just a little." Turning then to leave, Babs added, "Thanks for telling me, Bugs. No wonder he hates air travel. I think he needs a friend right now though." and she went out to join him. She pondered the best way to help Buster understand, but Babs had no idea how she would react if anything had happened to her mother, then her father had found someone new after all this time. "So do I kiddo, so do I." Bugs replied to no one as he pondered what Lola might do to Elmyra in this situation. Looking out his window, Bugs saw Babs sit down next to Buster and give him a hug. Even inside his office Bugs could hear bones snap as Buster turned and looked at her. "Oh good, your still in the present. How about a Weeny-Burger?" Babs asked. Then, not waiting for an answer, she started to pull him towards the nearest stand. Once they had gotten their food, and found a booth, Buster said "Sorry I was so lost there Bablo." "That's alright Buster," said Babs. "Oh, I went ahead and invited Bugs to join us for supper." Buster didn't seem to hear her comment. "I'm just not so sure about his falling for Lola like this." he said wistfully "O come on. That's not the Buster I love talking," said Babs as she leaned forward to give him a kiss. "You want him to be happy, right?" "Well yea, but..." "But what, Buster? It doesn't change the fact he loved your mother, nor does it change the fact he loves you, and it never will." Buster knew that Babs had a piont. "Your right Babs," he said after a few seconds. "I'll try to put a better face on it." He sighed then, looking at his Weenie Burger, he added, "I better go back to the Loo and invite him, and Lola, to supper tonight. She's really not a bad person." "I already did," Babs said. "Lola won't be joining us tonight though, she's all tied up. Anyways, Bugs promised to tell me about your infancy, sounds interesting." A huge grin formed on Babs's face as said this. "Whoa! Rope it in, Babs. Lets not do that." he replied with a smirk as he recalled seeing Babs's baby pictures, which her mother had shown him several months earlier. "Oh come on, Buster, it will be a learning experiance for me," Babs pleaded, rubbing the fur between his ears playfully. "Oh, all right Babsy, if it will make you happy. So what happened to Lola?" he asked with happy grin. "All right Buster get rid of that smirk. We have to get supper ready." she retorted changing into her impersonation of a drill sergant. "Aye, Aye M'am." Buster stated giving Babs a naval salute "Wrong branch of service mister. Let's get out of here." Babs said tunneling into the floor, with Buster quickly following. "Babsy, you never told me what happened to Lola." he complained as they exited into his burrow. "Bugs said she was tied up, and he guesses it's Elmyra." she responded "Well we better cancel supper, and go rescue her," Buster sighed. He had been looking forward to a quiet evening with Babs and his father, he could've even dealt with Lola being there, but the thought of anyone being the prisoner of Elmyra really bothered him. "I was assured she can take care of herself. As Bugs put it, 'Wait till she calls her doll.'" Babs observed "Ouch, dad wasn't sure if he'd ever get out of the knots she tied him in for that shot." Buster stated, remembering seeing them use a rack to help untwist Bugs. They had to reshoot the scene to get it right. Finally they ended up editing the two scenes together to get what they had wanted out of it. "The things you learn outside of school. I'd guess you'd call that an extra, extreme wild take." Babs said kissing Buster "How's about we just order a carrot pizza, and keep this simple." "Sounds great to me Bablo." he replied "Sounds fine to me to Doc, you two keep goin' I'll order the pizza." Bugs said, observing the two of them going at it. He really didn't have the heart to tell them, that Buster's mom and him had set the all time record, almost one whole day kissing. It was far better that they thought they were setting a record of thier own. Bugs had slipped in, totally un-noticed. Babs and Buster of them were kissing, lost in thier own little world. Bugs was certain, the world's largest anvil could've been dropped on them, without thier noticing. "Thanks, Dad." Buster mumbled, as the doorbell rang. Buster for once was annoyed by the rapid service they generally got, with Little Beeper delivering pizzas. "We better break this off." Babs said breaking their lip lock "We can pick this up later blue boy." "Alright, and maybe I can keep you from learning about my infancy." he replied grinning "I don't think so Doc, er son. She needs to know if anyone does." Bugs said firmly holding the pizza "Chow is served." "OK Bugs, er dad." Buster commented "I'll be ever so glad, when we both fully get over this hiding we're father and son." "Well we've been doing it since you were born, give it awhile." he replied grinning. Babs just shook her head grabbed the pizza from Bugs, and put it on the table. She was guessing they would still be trying to hide thier relationship for alittle while, after all, sixteen years was a long time to do something like that. Considering the fact no one had told before this, Bugs had been keeping the secret before Buster was even born. The tabloids were still full of nasty rumours on Buster's infancy, but that didn't bother her. Babs wanted the truth, and she was going to get it from the horse's or horses's mouths. "Eee-excuse me the pizza is getting cold." Babs coughed getting thier attention. Bugs's mind ranged back in time, to shortly before Buster had been born. His wife had told them of her situation, and together they agreed she would return to her parents' home for a while. Bugs had seen too much in his years around the Hollywood scene to want his children to have to deal with it. She was a plain and simple rabbit that had been talked into appearing on the screen only once during the whole time they had been wed and that had been for a minute or so. He had been there for a short visit during the blessed event, but a pressing engagement, kept him from staying long. It was about month later that he was finally free. Buster and her were to fly into town to see him. They had kept the secret from everyone but her doctor of the fact that Buster was his son. Bugs was nerviously pacing the ground as Daffy approached him. "It looks to be a hot time in the sky today," he said pointing the plane on fire. Bugs was very nervious, as it didn't appear to be toon fire, but real fire quickly engulfing the plane and everything on it. "Whoohoo! look a bouncing baby boy." Daffy said pionting to Buster, who had landed, bounced and landed again "Bu..." Bugs gasped spotting a tiny bit of baby blue fur on the ground, before the parachute covered him. Bugs restrained the urge to punch Daffy out right then and there, rushing instead to small form hidden under the parachute. Bugs quickly cooled down realizing that Daffy probably assumed that it was either shooting for a picture, or someone's disgusting idea of a publicity stunt. Picking him up Bugs quickly scanned the sky for any signs of more toons escapeing a firery fate. Not spotting any, and with a great amount of inner pain he quickly tunneled the hospital. Pacing back and forth while waiting for the doctor to tell him something, Bugs had worn a trench into the waiting room floor so deep that only his ears showed. He was really hoping no one noticed his nerviousness. "Mr. Bunny, where are you?" the doctor called out, coming into the waiting room. Then seeing the ears moving back and forth in the trench, he strolled over, and bending down he said "Oh there you are. The child you brought in is just fine. There are no pyhsical injuries, but there are bound to be phsyiclogical ones." "Thanks, Doc. I'll take it from here. Err Doc, I'd really appreacate it if you didn't tell anyone, about the kid." he replied looking around, as he hopped out of the hole. The Doctor, who was never one to talk about what his star clients wanted anyways, simply nodded. "Of course not. But you think you could take care of that trench for me." "Sure thing Doc. Sure thing." Bugs replied, yelling off screen "Hey! Can youse take care of this would you." The doctor backed away as a big brush entered the scene painting away all traces of the trench that had been in the floor. He just shrugged his shoulders as the brush was removed, having seen it happen before. Though oddly, it had never been Bugs who had summoned it before. That, combined with the fact it had only taken him five minutes to wear a hole into the floor, which was suspost to be a worry proof Acme floor, gave him reason for pause. (Acme had made the first one for Scrooge McDuck's Worry Room). Then again, the Doctor realized almost nothing Acme made worked right anyways, so let the matter go and went to see if he had any other patients in the other waiting rooms. The Doctor sighed stepping over the hole Bugs made tunneling out of the hospital, the multiple waiting rooms were a pain, but it helped keep annoying reporters from annoying his star clients. It was soon after this Bugs closed down his Hollywood home. Many of his friends were surprised that he was leaving for an undetermined time. As it was there were very few acting jobs out there for toons at the moment. Except for the very occasional TV special, Bugs wasn't working. He had moved into a small burrow in the Acme forest, where hopefully things would be very quiet. There wasn't any acting business out there right now, and that suited Bugs perfectly. "You mean, this very burrow?" Babs asked blinking her eyes. "Yep Bablo. Most of my memories was growing up were right here." Buster replied chuckling at Babs' surprise. "I'm really surprised that the two of you were able to keep the secret for so long." she replied pulling Buster closer. Buster quickly stopped, and pulled himself free of Babs's grasp noticing the look on Bugs face. It was an odd mixture of pain, and joy. It finally sunk in that, while Bugs still loved his mother, going without someone for all these years was hard. "Hello," a voice called down. Bugs's ears quickly perked up recognizing Lola's voice. "Come on in, Lola," Buster called out. "How's about Bugs comes on out, and we'll let Babs and you be alone," she countered. "Well, Doc thanks for supper. I'm taking that offer. Youse have fun." Bugs said leaving behind an after-image as he left. Buster pulled Babs close, giving her a kiss, as he turned off the lights. Out in the forest Lola and Bugs quickly found, a privite spot to talk without any prying ears, or eyes. The End I welcome for anyone to fill in any possible plots left by this story. ie. How and why Elmyra or Monty would capture Lola. As was pointed out to me in the first edition of this there are several possiblities. **A Special Thank You to Kevin Mickel aka HKUriah@AOL.com for reviewing this story and offering me pionters**
